Using chemical astringents too often during beauty treatments could be harmful to your skin. A better and preferable alternative is to opt for natural astringents. They don’t worsen skin problems and conditions and at the same time soothe the skin. We list out 5 such natural astringents:
1. Rose water
Rose water is a mild astringent suitable for all skin types. Its anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties relieve the skin from an array of problems. Rosewater helps treat skin irritation on sensitive skin, balances out oily skin, softens and tones the skin. A splash of rose water gives a glowing effect and helps nourish the skin. Along with being a good choice as an astringent it serves as a great deep cleanser and toner.
2. Green tea
Green tea is packed with antioxidants and is beneficial for anti-ageing skin problems. Dabbing some cool ice tea on the skin works as a good skin toner as well. It lessens acne and breakouts and helps the skin heal faster. It also helps to even out the skin tone and makes the skin firm.
3. Mint
Mint is a natural astringent that soothes the skin, providing relief from excessive irritation and itching. It removes dead skin cells easily as it contains some amount of salicylic acid. Mint is often used in other astringents, hydrosols and carrier oils for its healing effect. To use it as an astringent, you could grind mint leaves and add to some rose water.
4. Apple cider vinegar
Apple cider vinegar is a natural antiseptic and it has anti-fungal properties that make it easier to detoxify your skin quite rapidly. Dabbing a cloth soaked in some apple cider vinegar, mixed with water makes your skin feel plump and firm. It also helps for a clearer complexion and softer skin. It is also a great solution for skin burns.
